This impressive new Chamber of Wonder is inspired by an ancient Japanese legend that says people destined to meet are connected by an invisible red thread tied to their fingers. No matter which paths they take in life, their threads will inevitably converge, guiding them toward one another. It is a myth that resonates across many cultures.
In the installation 'Crystallizing Identity' - as is often the case in life - there is no beginning, no end, no logic, only an immense, interconnected universe. Chiharu Shiota has woven red wool threads and crystals into a complex network that leads to crystal casts of her own hands and feet. The artist invites visitors to explore their own thoughts and emotions within her Chamber of Wonder. Each person is free to experience the space in their own way. There is no right or wrong perception — only an invitation to engage with one's own inner world.
Chiharu Shiota has been living and working in Berlin since 1996. Her oeuvre is often inspired by deeply personal experiences. She gained international recognition for her expansive installations, in which she weaves everyday objects — such as boats, keys, beds, chairs, and clothing — into intricate networks formed by countless threads.
In 'Crystallizing Identity', Chiharu Shiota incorporates Swarovski crystal into her work for the first time. The vibrant qualities of the crystals - both fragile and resistant - add a new dimension to the sense of connectedness she seeks to convey.
Swarovski Crystal Worlds host a rich collection of precious items housed in different Chambers of Wonder. Here, in a world of fantasy inspired and designed by some of the world’s greatest artists, visitors can believe in miracles for just a moment.
