Apparently simple but highly refined – the approach of the designer Tokujin Yoshioka has much in common with Japanese cuisine. The Japanese artist, born in 1967, constantly incorporates new materials and technologies to create a reflective and transparent effect, with futuristic vision.
Yoshioka is especially known for his technical perfection and masterly inclusion of the element of light. He consistently avoids colourful escapades: “Honey-pop”, one of his most famous chair designs is composed entirely of white paper. His installations are appreciated as art rather than just pure design.After learning design from Shiro Kuramata and Issey Miyake, he opened his own studio “Tokujin Yoshioka Design” in the year 2000. He has received many awards and his creations are exhibited in the permanent collections of the most important museums in the world, for example in the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA).
