Chamber of Wonder

Since its Grand Reopening in 2011, Swarovski Innsbruck has housed its own Chamber of Wonder, modeled after Swarovski Kristallwelten (Swarovski Crystal Worlds).

Alien of Metal exists

by Raúl de Nieves

Since March 2020, the ground floor of the Swarovski Kristallwelten Store Innsbruck houses a new Chamber of Wonder: the artist Raúl de Nieves, who lives in New York, will show us his work "Alien of metal exists" with a unique sculpture and video.

The centerpiece of the installation is a sculpture that is studded with ornamental jewelry above and above. On two screens in the background, the film "Alien of metal exists" is shown by a rear projection, which takes place on Fire Island (State of New York). In the leading role we find a costumed figure: kaleidoscopically, it disintegrates while walking outdoors. Its ceremonial attire is decorated with bells. A discord arises as the figure rises from the sand and wades through high grass. The ten centimeter-sized crystal in front of the exhibit is also shown in the video and simultaneously reflects the video playing in the Chamber of Wonder.

Spread over two floors of the store, there are installations of various artists and innovations made out of and using crystal.
