Salvador Dalí

»To interest you have to provoke.«

The Catalan Salvador Dalí (b. 11.05.1904, d. 23.01.1989) is considered the most prominent representative of surrealism.

The characteristic tendency towards the grotesque and the playfully provocative formed a permanent thread through Dalí´s work and he thus made the absurdities of surrealism a consistent principle. This is evident in »The Passing of Time«, on display in the Entrance Hall. The form of the clock in Dalí´s plastic, forced to concede some of its power, is meant to show us that it is only life on the treadmill of time which prevents a direct and genuine experience of surrealism.
