The painter and sculptor Niki de Saint Phalle (b. 29.10.1930 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, d. 21.05.2002 in San Diego) is considered one of the icons of 20th century feminist art.
Almost all Niki de Saint Phalle´s works were stamped by a strong reference to sexual relationships and it was above all the huge, burlesque Nanas which she began in 1965 that brought her to world attention. One of these female figures with disproportionate sexual features is on display in the Entrance Hall at Crystal Worlds. The crystal in the Nana´s palm can certainly be ironically understood as a phallus and is further evidence of an art strongly characterised by sexual themes.
