Hubert Aratym

The Austrian Hubert Aratym (b. 22.01.1926 in Gutenstein, d. 22.02.2000 in Vienna) was a well-known painter, sculptor and stage designer.

Man and mystery are central to Aratym´s works, which often show shrouded, apparently partly bandaged figures. His favourite stylistic device was reduction, which he used to focus concentration on the essential. In his graphic works he sometimes drew inspiration from Philippine art.

The entrance to the Ice Passage at Crystal Worlds is guarded by a crystal sphinx, designed by Aratym and produced by hand in accordance with the old French Gobelin technique.
