Thomas Bayrle was born in Berlin in 1937 and studied at the Offenbach School of Art. He lives and works in Frankfurt am Main, where he is a professor at the Städel School.
Since the eighties, Thomas Bayrle’s art has revolved around the motif of the autobahn. In his sculptural works, rings and loops of model-like street sections twist in and out and over and under one another. This use of loops and looping, the continual repetition of one and the same motif, is an artistic strategy that has served him well for the last 40 years.
His piece, the “Conveyor Belt,” has been on display in the park at Swarovski Crystal Worlds since 2011.
